Gun Violence

Believes we need to treat gun violence like a health crisis and increase gun safety rules. Many Delawareans have either lost their lives or loved ones to gun violence. 

Received multiple positive ratings from Delaware’s NRA affiliate due to her work weakening gun safety measures. For House Bill 35 on background checks to purchase a gun she said “We have met with the NRA multiple times. They raised several concerns and brought several amendments, and we are incorporating some into the legislation."

Good Government

Believes legislators shouldn’t accept gifts from lobbyists and large corporations.

A report by Fight Delaware Corruption found Rep. Longhurst used public money to fund the organization she directs and earns nearly a $100,000 salary from.

Tax Fairness

Believes we should have a progressive tax system that taxes the super rich more than middle class Delawareans.

Voted Yes to end Delaware’s Estate Tax which only applied to those worth over $5.5 million. This forced millions of dollars in cuts to important services.

Climate Change

Believes we must not only transition Delaware into a green state but we must ensure environmental justice for all residents while doing so.

Championed legislation to help oil refineries by cutting a $100,000 license fee which also reduced funds for the Hazardous Substance Cleanup Fund.

Police Transparency

Believes that police misconduct records should be public to ensure accountability and safety.

Free School Meals

Believes that all students should be guaranteed breakfast and lunch regardless of their ability to pay.

Held up a bill providing free school meals to all children until it was watered down beyond recognition.

Sick Time and Safety Leave

Believes that all workers should be given earned time off if they are sick or need to deal with a domestic violence situation.

Health Care

Believes that health care is a human right and we should implement ways to make it more affordable, rather than more expensive.

Prime sponsor of House Bill 81 which made state employees and retirees pay more for their healthcare.

Community Services and Roads

Believes we need to proactively build up community in the district and ensure people get the services they need. Road repairs should be swift and consistent.

Has overseen a general lack of urgency in spurring community services. Road repairs have been slow and inconsistent.
